The Hindu gonojagoron Mancha has lifted its blockade at Shahbagh after nearly three hours, allowing traffic to resume in the area. However, severe traffic congestion has developed on the surrounding roads.
On Friday (September 13) evening, the group concluded its program for the day and left the streets.
Earlier in the day, the Hindu gonojagaron Mancha had blocked Shahbagh intersection, citing attacks on religious institutions and homes. They demanded the closure of the offending entities and enhanced security, among eight other demands. This blockage halted traffic on the road, prompting the deployment of police to manage the situation.
It is worth noting that last month, the same group had held a protest at Shahbagh, demanding swift justice through special tribunals for recent attacks on minorities. They had also called for compensation and rehabilitation for the victims. Their eight-point demands include legislation for minority protection, establishment of a ministry, and extending Durga Puja holidays to five days.
