The much-anticipated film “Shonibar Bikel” by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki has finally received a green light from the censor board and will be released soon for the audience. This is one of the most controversial films in recent times, loosely based on the horrific terrorist attack of Holy Artisan in Dhaka that killed 22 people.
The Film Censor Board denied the theatrical release of ‘Shonibar Bikel’, a move the film’s director denounced as “unhealthy for artistic expression”. The board members noted the possibility that the theatrical distribution of this film might ‘smear’ Bangladesh’s image and incite religious hatred.
The cast includes notable artists such as Zahid Hasan, Tisha, Mamunur Rashid, Iresh Zaker, Intekhab Dinar, Nader Chowdhury, and Gousul Alam Shaon. This film also included Indian actor Parambrata Chatterjee and Palestinian actor Eyad Hourani.
Many netizens have expressed their support for the film and their displeasure with the censor board’s decision to block it. They believe it is a significant setback to freedom of expression because the director did not use any real-life characters in his portrayal.
