U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Donald Lu, will visit India and Bangladesh from September 10 to 16, with a key focus on bilateral and strategic dialogues. In India, Lu will participate in the U.S.-India “2+2” intersessional dialogue involving the Foreign and Defence Ministries. This discussion, a precursor to the sixth annual 2+2 dialogue set to occur in Washington, D.C., aims to deepen defence cooperation and broader collaboration in the Indo-Pacific.
Following his India trip, Lu will head to Bangladesh for an economic dialogue, slated for September 14-15, focusing on economic growth, development, and financial stability. This dialogue, led by the U.S. Treasury Department, includes delegates from various U.S. agencies and represents a shift in tone from the strained U.S.-Bangladesh relationship under former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been in exile in India since August.
