As part of a 12-point plan to resolve the war, China has called for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia while urging all parties to avoid nuclear escalation and a gradual de-escalation of the situation that will open the door for peace negotiations. China also asked to bring an end to the attacks on civilians by both countries.
The plan by China, which was released on Friday morning by the foreign ministry and coincided with the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, calls for the lifting of Western sanctions against Russia, the establishment of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians, and measures to ensure grain exports after disruptions last year caused a spike in food prices around the world.
Chinese premier Xi Jinping.is expected to deliver a speech where he will likely focus on the ongoing tension between Russia and Ukraine.
