Police have arrested Shahriar Kabir, the president of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, from his residence in Mohakhali, Dhaka, around midnight on Monday. The arrest was confirmed by a source within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), with further details expected to be released later.
Kabir’s arrest follows allegations made on August 20 by Mufti Harun Izahar Chowdhury, Joint Secretary (Education and Law) of Hefazat-e-Islam, at the International Crimes Tribunal. These accusations, which include crimes against humanity and genocide, are related to the 2013 Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Shapla Chattar. The charges name 24 individuals, including Kabir and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Additionally, Kabir is implicated in a murder case involving the death of student Imran Hossain in Qutubkhali, Jatrabari, on August 5.
