This year’s Oscars got a lot more exciting when Will Smith got on stage and slapped Chris Rock over a joke. This incident took the internet by storm and everyone has been talking about it since. There are opinions coming from both sides and it is surprising to see how the internet got divided over a slap.
Will Smith has always been a cult figure among Content creators and memers. He became one of the Internet’s favorite celebrities due to his off-screen persona and laid-back demeanor. But now his image could be jeopardized after he slapped Chris Rock, a fellow actor and comedian, over a simple joke. What made Will smith so mad at Chris Rock and why did he slap him over a G.I. Jane II joke?
What Happened At The Oscars 2022
Rock got up onstage at the Oscars to present Best Documentary. As a standup comic, he started with a joke. He made a joke about Denzel Washington which got a few laughs. Then he turned his attention to Jada Pinkett Smith which also got the attention of the whole world. Jada came to the Oscars with her husband Will Smith wearing a buzzcut, just like Demi Moore’s character in the 1997 film G.I. Jane. Chris Rock took this chance to make a joke about it. But the punchline came from Will Smith. Chris Rock made a joke about seeing Jada Pinkett Smith in G.I. Jane II (because of her hair of course). Will smith was seen laughing at the Joke but Jada was not impressed and rather displeased. Looking at his wife unhappy about the joke he didn’t take the remarks too well.
Will Smith Got On Stage To Slap Chris Rock Over G.I. Jane II Joke.
Jada was going through a difficult time with her health condition. She has been candid about her hair loss and bald areas due to alopecia.
In December, she said on Instagram, “Mama’s gonna have to take it down to the scalp so nobody thinks she got brain surgery or something,” she wrote, “I and this alopecia are going to be friends … period!”. Will Smith Clearly didn’t like Chris rock making fun of her wife’s health condition and it was pretty serious. Even though this trio had been friends for quite a long time, Will didn’t let it slide down easy.
After Rock’s joke, Pinkett Smith rolled her eyes. As Smith moved to the stage and hit Rock, and the whole audience went silent. Some countries aired the whole thing. “Will Smith just smacked he sh-t out of me,” said a Chris Rock. Chris Rock took it well and didn’t create a scene. Although he was stunned by it, he continued skipping the joke after Smith responded: “Keep my wife’s name out your f-cking mouth,” and repeated the phrase.
