A total of 142 Bangladeshis, who returned from Italy, which recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in Europe, are being quarantined at Ashkona Hajj Camp in Dhaka.
Dr Shahriar Sajjad, in-charge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport medical team, said the Bangladeshis arrived on a flight of Emirates Airlines at 8am on Saturday, reports UNB.
“They were sent to the hajj camp quarantine from the airport,” he said.
Earlier in the day, at least 30 out of the 142 Italy-returnees staged a demonstration outside the camp in presence of police and Ansar members, saying that no doctors or health officials visited them till 2:45pm. They accused the officials of mismanagement and created a panic. Some of them were also seen meeting their relatives. After a while, they stopped protesting as officials were able to comfort them.
The death toll from coronavirus or Covid-19 reached 5,436 globally as of Saturday. Besides, 145,810 new cases were reported from around the world, according to worldometer.
